JAGWAT is a non-profit organisation founded by Sibahle Teyise and run by a group of 3 black women. Our aim is to provide a safe platform for women to share their stories with the aim of inspiring others as well as provide platforms to give back to the community and empower other women through various initiatives. The basis of JAGWAT is based on these 3 initiatives:

Every year we sponsor students from disadvantaged backgrounds with dresses for matric dances. The dresses are collected from our generous sponsors or purchased by our team through donations. We welcome second hand dresses and shoes that are still in a good condition.

In partnership with “I AM, YOU ARE” we collect sanitary towels to donate to students from the township on a monthly basis. We also collect second hand books that are still in a good condition to donate to initiatives in Khayelitsha.

Every year we host our annual Empowered Women networking session. This a free event featuring performances from various artists from Khayelitsha. Entrance to the event is a packet of sanitary towels or a book. Food and drinks at the event is made by our team and sold at a reasonable price. All proceeds of the event go to our Matric dance, sanitary towels as well as book drive. The event also features talks from various women who are making a difference in their communities.
